I can see how this could be viewed as a beginner s guide as it starts with stick figures and goes from there There were some things that I found quite helpful in the book, but the poses were really awkward for someone just starting to learn There were also sections like the rib and spine section that barely cover certain aspects I.e there are no real details of how to draw shape the spine like the other body parts have In my opinion, this doesn t seem like a good beginner s guide unless you want to draw realistic human figures and already have some basic knowledge It just wasn t the right fit for my current needs, unfortunately. I m disappointed The figures are quite awkward I will probably return it. I purchased this book as a newcomer to drawing with a desire to draw people beyond my stick figure capabilities The book is a great step by step guide on how to draw the human form for beginners Each step was clearly explained and achievable for someone relatively new to drawing It starts off with drawing stick people to learn proportions and each chapter gets progressively advanced until you re drawing fully formed bodies with muscles I liked the way each chapter builds on the previous chapter and that there are plenty of illustrations to show you what to do It s not about drawing a portrait for me, so it suits the goal I have in mind quite well. A very nice book to practice human figure from scratch and in motion A very useful tool for beginners or rusty once intermediate artists I took human figure sessions with model or dummies, but I always had trouble to take human proportions from theory to the practice But this book makes it very easy with a very simple technique that helps you draw human figure in motion from the beginning instead of the usual stiff poses of the dummy or the stressing changing poses of the model.
