Reportage and Documentary Drawing: Tips and Techniques for Drawing on Location Why would anyone publish a book with most of its text in tiny gray print I am a fan of Urban Sketching, a fan of Veronica Lawlor, and a fan of several of the individual artists who contributed their sketches to this book But I feel like getting a magnifying glass to read it. This book personally to me has some very interesting, pretty, and inspiring sketches within it but I wouldn t recommend this book at full price It you see a well priced used copy I would recommend any artist to get it. I love every one of the books in this series Haven t run across a bad one yet I keep them on my desk and refer back form time to time Very useful and I love the size of the book Easy to pick up and throw in your bag and thumb through as time allows. I was surprised by the small format The print is very small and the captions for illustrations are nearly microscopic The designer s choice of gray ink on toned paper for much of the publication provides poor contrast Illustrations are disappointingly small The first time I used the elastic strap that should fasten the book closed in the manner of a portable sketchbook it came off at one end and the flimsy cover has already cracked A useless gimmick Content is good but not worth the money or effort to read this book Develop Your Own Creative Approach, No Matter What Your Skill Level With The Urban Sketching Handbook Reportage And Documentary DrawingThe Third Volume In The Urban Sketching Handbook Series, Reportage And Documentary Drawing, Is About Drawing As A Form Of Journalism Or Documenting Life This Includes Drawings Events Such As Parades, Music Performances, Sporting Events, Speeches, And Can Include Everything From Newsworthy Political Events To Simply Documenting A Day S Adventures It S About Being Attentive To Your Surroundings, And Telling That Story Through Your SketchesArtist Veronica Lawlor Explains How To Use Art To Find And Tell The Stories Around You From Visual Journalism To Simply Sharing Your Emotional Experience Of A Place, A Reportage Illustrator Has Something To Say To Their Audience Just As There Are All Types Of Written Stories To Be Told, Mystery, Horror, Romance This Volume Of The Urban Sketching Handbook Series Reminds Artists, Sketchers, Doodlers, And Illustrators That There Are All Types Of Visual Stories Waiting To Be Told And The Next Step Is To Go Out And Tell Them Some Of The Key Concepts Explored In This Volume Are Observation Context History Ritual Understanding Storytelling Drama Documentation
